Proposal References

The Office of Sponsored Programs helps Missouri S&T researchers through the grants and contracts process from beginning to end. We help you edit your proposal, work on your budget, submit your paperwork to the agency, and help manage your accounts once the award is granted.  We will take some of the hassle out of the paperwork, so you can focus on the research.

Proposal Submission Process

  1. PI brings budget to OSP to be checked.
  2. PI contacts OSP for review of RFP, BAA, and RFQ terms & conditions and completion of certifications.
  3. PI enters proposal on PeopleSoft Grants Module.
  4. PI brings completed proposal and paper copy of PeopleSoft signature routing sheet signed by the PI, the PI's department chair, the PI's dean, and all Co-PIs.
  5. OSP submits the proposal.

Award Process

  1. Award received by OSP.
  2. OSP contacts PI.
  3. OSP reviews award for compliance.
  4. Award paperwork prepared and award letter is sent to PI.

*Modified Total Direct Costs (MTDC) are total direct costs minus:

  • All capital expenditures (buildings, renovations, etc)
  • Individual items of equipment with a single unit value of $5,000 or greater and an estimated useful life of more than one year.
  • The portion of each individual sub-award (subcontract) in excess of $25,000 whether services are obtained from an owned, related, or third-party hospital or other medical facility
  • All rental/maintenance of off-site activities (space)
  • All student support costs (e.g., student aid, dependency allowances, scholarships, and fellowships).

**On Campus vs. Off Campus rate

Activities conducted in facilities not owned by Missouri S&T and for which rent is charged to the project to use the facilities are considered off-campus.  Projects with both on-campus and off-campus activities must have budgets between those activities.
