Reason for the Fort Leonard Wood Liaison
Missouri S&T is intensely interested in research and economic development that is possible through the local Army installation, Fort Leonard Wood. The Fort is located about 30 miles west of Rolla on Interstate 44. The post is home to the US Army Engineer School, the Military Police School, and the Chemical School.

The Engineers work with geospatial information, explosive hazards, infrastructure, and battlefield mobility (including bridging) for use by and training of the deployed Army. The Military Police control law enforcement, refuge and population protection, less-lethal weapons, criminal investigation, and internment. The Chemical Corps defends against chemical, biological, nuclear, radiological, and high-yield explosive (CBRNE) devices. The US Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard also perform significant levels of technical training at Fort Leonard Wood beyond the Army post's famous mission as 'boot camp' for thousands of American youth becoming soldiers.
